Abs are a muscle. Treat them like one.
Here's the thing almost nobody does — they train abs with mindless reps and sets, and wonder why nothing grows. But abs respond to the exact same rules as every other muscle: progressive overload and correct technique. Random crunches until you're tired doesn't cut it.
On every ab movement, you have to brace the transverse abdominis and flex the spine. That's what actually targets the abs and makes them grow — not just going through the motion.
Most guys have underdeveloped abs without even knowing it. They're so focused on the belly fat that they never consider the muscle underneath might just be small. I was the perfect example — genetically I started with underdeveloped abs, so I had to actually train them to build them up. Odds are, you do too.
Then get properly lean.
You can build the best abs in the world — if there's a layer of fat over them, no one will ever see it. So the second half is non-negotiable: lose the body fat and get properly lean.
Where abs actually show
Roughly where you need to be for real, all-conditions definition — no perfect lighting required.
Build the abs with real training + progressive overload, then reveal them by getting properly lean. Skip either half and it doesn't work.
